Lexie was diagnosed with epilepsy about three weeks ago. She had three seizures and the vet stated that the most common cause of seizures in dogs her age is just plain old epilepsy. All her lab work came back beautifully, and she was started on phenobarbital, which is in the form of two pills a day. I give them in her morning and evening food and it is very simple and effective. She has had no seizures since and is doing fine! The pills are 10.00 a month and I picked them up at the walmart pharmacy along with my scripts. It seems to be a pretty low maintanance condition, although she will need occasional blood tests to check the effects of the phenobarbitol on her body.
The only side effect I see is a little sleepiness after her evening dose, which is fine because we go to bed fairly early.
Lexie is trully the sweetest dog I have ever fostered! She lives for positive attention, and gets a goofy smile on her face when hanging out and happy. She wants to be near her person, the closer the better, and even loves to sleep with her head on my chest when allowed. She is quick to take instruction and is safe walking next to me in the yard off leash, as her recall is excellent. We have been socializing with the dogs down the block, a Great Dane and American Bulldog. She is so funny with her play bow, and dodging and running, she loves it!
However, when we encounter dogs she does not know on leash she has a tendency to react agressivly, barking and lunging. We are working hard on extinquishing this behavior, encouraging calm quiet behavior.
Lexie loves to follow around the house and the garden and greets children and adults nicely. She seems to love people! She is especially at ease with women but okay with men. Give Lexie a long walk once a day, plenty of attention and love, and she is the best low maintanance dog you will ever have! Lexie was so skinny when I got her, but she has gained 10 pounds and is trim, at her proper weight with a shiny coat and bright eyes. Her beautiful tail has black fur shot through with red fur! I dont know what her mix is but it is a great one! Lexie deserves a wonderful home and I look foward to finding the right family to apreciate what a great dog she is.

Lexie is such a sweet dog! I can’t believe anyone would just drop her off at a shelter..
She is completly housetrained, She lives to please her person and bonds strongly with her main caregiver which right now is me..
She walks nicely on leash and loves her walks! She is learning to swim in the lake with my dogs but she mostly wades. Her favorite activity is curling up with the people in her life and taking naps. She makes funny little moans when she is happy, which is mostly when she is curled up next to you.. She can be silly; she came to see me while I was in the bath and I could tell she wanted something. She tried to steal the razor and I had to take it away, substituting an old wool homeade sponge and she carried it off proudly! She shredded it a tiny bit and then was done, Silly Girl!
The only problem Lexie seems to have is a bit of dog agression but she wants to please so much that it is easy to get her to stop. She is a rather dominant girl, but since her initial problems with my dogs, there have been no more dustups. As a matter of fact she sleeps right next to my English lab and they get along well. My male border Collie mix is enamored but she wants no part of him.
Anyway, Lexie has plenty of love for the right person, and she deserves a great home! She’s been through a lot and I would like her to rest easy for the rest of her life!

Lexie is doing well. She gets along with my dogs, although she is still vigilant about what SHE considers bad behavior on the part of the other dogs, and needs to be separated in another room if Dakota is playing and gets vocal while he plays. I think she assumes he is threatening us. Lexie is a needy girl and wants to be in your lap or would love to sleep right next to you if allowed. She is sweet and gentle with people but seems slightly insecure. She is getting better however and is currently sleeping on the floor right next to my English lab. Lexie is wonderful with walks, walks nicely with the other dogs, and responds well to praise!
Lexie loves food has gained some needed weight. Her tail is healing and with brushing and good food her coat is getting shiny.
