All Come Bye Border Collie Rescue dogs offered for adoption have been heartworm tested and on preventative, spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped and, in season, on flea/tick preventative.

Dude has settled in nicely here. He is very nonassuming socially with our ten-year-old Swissy, Golem, though Dude's athleticism sometimes overwhelms Golem. The boys do often spend quiet evenings chewing bones, or just chilling out no more than five feet apart. Of course, they do both like a lot of petting down on the floor, too.
Every morning, Dude graces us with the beautiful sight of a trim, athletic dog bounding along, clearing a fence into a garden with ease as he sweeps the rabbits from the yard. If he weren't panicking about the footing on the tile floor in the kitchen, I'd say this dog had the makings of a MACH in him. He will need a large play area and regular daily exercise.
He does not seem to be particularly concerned about firecrackers, thankfully.
We've been working on some things: "Off" (the bed), "No" (jumping up on me), "Go in" (the crate) an easy one, he loves his crate, "Wait" (at doors), "Sit", "Down", "Leave it", and to come when we say "Dude!". Some of these, we're doing with the clicker, which he's really responsive to. I hope to use the clicker for the big challenge, loose leash walking soon. He will be a joy as a running partner when he learns leash rules.
June 26, 2010 Meet Dude!Like Jeff Lebowski, he's one laid back guy. Dude is 4-6 years old, but he moves like a youngster--fast and graceful on his long legs. With his silky black hair, and freckled white paws, muzzle, chest, and tail tip, he appears to be a Border Collie x Flat-Coated Retriever, although he may have some sighthound in him. He weighs 58 pounds and is quite tall-- his nose is counter height.
Dude was found living on the streets in a town near Peoria, IL. He had been fed by the mechanics at local auto parts shop, until Animal Control officers could capture him and bring him into the shelter. He has been in foster care since then.
Dude really likes to be with people; he's never met a stranger. He wants to be in the same room where everyone is in the house, and if possible, right next to someone. He does not like spending much time outdoors alone (he is housetrained). He enjoys being petted and will ask for a lot of it, although he doesn't mind just snuggling next to you while you are watching TV or reading a book. He needs to be reminded that he is not a lap dog.
He likes brisk walks or jogs, but is still learning leash manners. We're still trying to find the right kind of toy for him (other than the kinds with food, which he loves!) He is not terribly interested in chasing or fetching balls.
He is good with other pets if properly introduced and seems friendly to children, although he is large and clumsy.
